Lenovo S10 netbook: limited stock?

So Lenovo announced not so long ago that its S10 netbook, one of many Atom powered netbooks to be unleashed on the world in the last few months, was ready to be purchased. Initial shipping times were estimated at 2-3 weeks, and then all of a sudden, that changed to 3-5 business days. Well, looking on Lenovo’s site today, the Lenovo S10 isn’t going to be getting to you in anywhere near that time.

In fact, it’s going to take a whole hell of a lot longer than than 3-5 business days as they’re now showing that the Lenovo S10 isn’t shipping for at least 4 weeks. What happened, Lenovo? Was there really that much demand and they sold out all of their stock on hand in a couple of days? If so, shouldn’t they have had more? That’s like Apple running out of iPhones or Nintendo running out of Wiis.

There are some who’d theorize that it’s a conspiracy, that these companies are intentionally either withholding stock or artificially not creating enough in an attempt to drive up demand. I somehow doubt that’s the case when we’re talking about the saturated netbook market, but it’s pretty interesting when you consider Lenovo originally listed the Lenovo S10 netbook as having the x4500 graphics card, but later amended it to the proper GMA950.

Really, I’m not suggesting there’s anything funny or dishonest going on, just making an observation that if you had been thinking of ordering a Lenovo S10, I hope you did it early, otherwise you’re going to be waiting a while.

Oh, and as a side note, we should be seeing some reviews of the Lenovo S10 netbook pretty soon, and there’s one on Lenovo’s site right now, if you can call it as much.

Would anyone like to take a guess if Dell’s Mininote (or is it Dell Inspiron 910?) will be coming out any time soon and if they’ll have the same stock problems?
