It’d appear that all sorts of details are available now for Dell’s netbook the world has been itching for. Or some of it, because I’m certainly not one of them. In fact, it almost seems like I’m one of the only ones who looks at it and is a little underwhelmed. Sure, it’s a great deal for the price, but I don’t consider if the Second Coming of the netbook. In yet another surprise, Intel’s Atom, known for powering a lot of netbooks these days and the Eee Box, has more competition to field, this time from AMD. AMD hasn’t had a great record lately compared to Intel when it comes to pure power, but it looks like they may have another winner on their hands. How is it that AMD has bested Intel? (more…)
So I’ve already done a preview and unboxing of this little netbook, but it’s time to get a little more in-depth with things now that I’ve had a chance to spend some time with it. For those who want the the general consensus and don’t want to wait until the end, here it is: it’s good! For the rest, I’ve spent the last week and a half using and evaluating the One and have some observations and numbers to share.
DigiTimes is reporting that VIA is prepping to launch Mobile-ITX, which is supposed to be even smaller than Pico-ITX. Read that again: smaller than Pico-ITX. I have to wonder if that’s a typo considering how ridiculously small Pico-ITX is, especially when you consider that Mobile-ITX is going to support the C7 and Nano. DigiTimes speculates that this could be applied to robotics, but I’m wondering what about a Nano based phone or internet tablet? (more…)
So another company has entered the Atom based netbook game, but this time Kohjinsha has seen fit to include a touch screen on their 8.9″ netbook. So does that make it a netbook tablet computer, or a tablet netbook? Regardless, the good: the resolution is 1280*768. Now, the bad: it has a touch screen.
TweakTown has posted a comparison of the Intel Atom and the VIA Nano. The Atom, obviously, is what is powering a large portion of the netbooks on the market now and those coming out soon. The Nano, however, is where things get interesting.
OC Register seems to think so. According to the article, they’re looking at a 10.2″ netbook. At what point can we finally stop calling these netbooks and call them notebooks again? Seriously, 10.2″? Isn’t 10″ already pushing it?
Regardless, I’ve never personally used an Averatec machine and my only real memory of them is from a 12″ tablet they used to make at a time when you couldn’t find them that small. However, based on the design they had with that tablet and the picture they have of this upcoming netbook, I’m cautiously optimistic.
