Catching up on news from the weekend, news of Fujitsu’s update to their LifeBook P1630 has hit the web thanks to the FCC. I love when news breaks, or products are announced, via some sort of government agency. There’s something particularly satisfying about products being outed in this fashion. Anyhow, what can you expect from the update to this tablet computer (it’s not really a netbook tablet because it predates them)?
The Fujitsu LifeBook P1630 is just an incremental upgrade to the existing P1620 that has been out for some time. The ULV Core 2 Duo has been kicked up to 1.4 ghz from 1.2, and the video card has been updated from the really old GMA 950 to the X4500. That’s basically it.
So if this isn’t a netbook tablet, or at least wasn’t originally considered to be, should it be now? Probably not because the P1620 right now starts at $2000 and that’s about four times what one would expect to pay for a netbook (or more, depending on the netbook). Still, I’ve thought of getting one of these tablet computers for years, but I was always put off by the touch screen and the exorbitant price.
I’m pretty sure my opinion won’t be changing any time soon, but I know there’s a solid core fan group who likes these machines, so I hope they like the (minor) updates.
