MiTAC MiSTATION netbook: with GPS

Following the announcement of LG’s super cool netbook, Mio (GPS folks) have announced they’re throwing their hat into the proverbial ring with the MiTAC MiSTATION. Stupid lowercase i usage aside, what sets this apart from the rest of the netbooks out there (aside from the LG X110 netbook) is that it includes a GPS. Well, it only makes sense since they’re a navigation company.
Anyhow, the rest of the hardware looks like what everyone is featuring these days including the standard Atom CPU, hard drive or SSD option, linux or Windows, WiFi, etc. etc. The standard hardware layout and Eee PC 701-like keyboard aren’t what makes this netbook interesting, it’s that GPS.

It appears that it pops out of the side in some weird way when you need it. But what I find particularly interesting is that Mio apparently cooked up software for this thing to work in Windows or linux. Now, I’m more a Garmin guy and it’s been a while since I’ve tried hooking my GPS up to a notebook (I used to use it with my iPAQ for wardriving back in the day), but GPS navigation software used to be pretty slim on anything other than Windows. That may not be the case now, which would of course make this whole aside worthless.

Anyhow, if you’re in Europe and have 350-500 Euros to spend and don’t want the much cooler looking (and better keyboard layout) LG X110 netbook, then check this out. jkkmobile has more on the MiTAC MiSTATION.
