Asus N10 netbook – more details and tech specs

More details have emerged about the somewhat elusive not-an-Eee machine. Last time we spoke about the Asus N10 netbook there were pictures and things from the device as seen in the wild. This time, there’s slides and (somewhat) technical specs that go into even more details about what we expect from Asus when this is ready to hit the market.

First, let’s get some specs out of the way. This is a partial rundown:

  • 10.2″ LED 1024×600 screen
  • 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
  • NVIDIA GeForce Go 9300M GS
  • 2GB RAM
  • One ExpressCard slot
  • HDMI out
  • 3.5 lbs

There’s more details available, of course, such as a fingerprint reader and webcam and that the webcam should allow for facial recognition logon.

Also, it looks like the Asus N10 netbook is going to be running Windows (XP or Vista) and will sport a rather massive 250gb hard drive for the netbook market. Also of note, that 3.5 lbs includes a 6 cell battery that Asus claims (in its slides) is good for 6.5 hours if you turn off the GeForce card and instead go with the integrated solution. Should you leave it on, they’re sitll claiming 4.7 hours.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but with HDMI out and the GeForce card under the hood, this is looking like it could be a nettop that you could stack on top of your tv (or DVD player) and hook it up to the tv and have a great media server. Considering how limited nettops have been because of the Atom graphics card limitations, this is looking to be far more usable and compelling (price aside) than the actual nettop machines.

One big caveat: while prices are listed for the Asus N10 netbook, it’s not clear what each price point will include. If you want all of the goodies, you can expect to pay a very unnetbooklike $850. Lower priced models will be available, but you’ll start missing out on things like HDMI, the fingerprint reader, and the big hard drive.

P.S. What’s with slide number 5? Notice the keyboard has a full number pad? Oops?
