Word on the street is that Apple is getting ready to send out new MacBooks, or rather, they’re already on the way. Does this mean that another Apple event is going to happen soon, or are they just going to spring these fancy new machines on the (not) unsuspecting public? And what’s different about them?Leo Laporte talks pretty frequently about how computer manufacturers are almost (or are) at the point that anything new they introduce isn’t so much about features but looks. It’s like a redesigned car. It has new paint, a new wing, new mirrors, etc. but the whole is mostly unchanged. I’m not sure that’s going to the case here (it’s not like it’s going to be an Apple netbook or anything), but current rumors suggest that the old rumors are true, namely that the MacBook is going upscale insofar as it’s to get an aluminum shell.
Sure, I’d like to see the long-rumored Apple tablet computer to come out (or an Apple netbook, wouldn’t that be interesting?), but it looks like we’re going to get another normal MacBook. Frankly, I’m fine with that.
The most interesting thing is the newest rumor suggests “agressive” pricing, which is something Apple has never really done. If it says Apple, it comes at a premium. It’s that simple. So, if true, what does aggressive really mean?
I’ll be honest: if the price is really aggressive, I’m willing to replace my Acer Aspire One netbook with a MacBook. After all, I’m considering a MacBook Air, but that’s another $1000+.
MacRumors has more.
