This isn’t the first time news of the Samsung netbook has come out, but it’s slightly more information than was originally revealed, so what the hell? Let’s take a closer look at what they’re offering as they jump wholeheartedly into the market that has already been dominated by the likes of Asus, Acer, and HP, but never mind that. Welcome to the party, Samsung, so nice of you to show up…late. (more…)
I haven’t bothered talking about the Everun Note UMPC all that much because, for the most part, I was waiting to see how the hardware shook out. While everyone else out there is falling over each other to build another Atom-based netbook (except for the Commodore netbook, thank you), Raon Digital opted to go with an AMD Turion X2 processor for their netbook. Because of increased power requirements from the AMD processor, this could have gone a couple of different ways. It looks like it’s gone the good way. (more…)
It’s been an interesting year since the Eee PC has taken off and Asus has seen fit to introduce one new Eee PC netbook for every month of the year with extras to spare. And of course, every other manufacturer has decided to make one (even a Commodore netbook!) which has resulted in an absolute explosion of products being available to the consumer and thus requiring production to be ramped up. Just how big has this market gotten? Well, Acer is expecting to ship another 2 million netbooks in the third quarter of this year, and that’s just Acer. (more…)
So remember when we were talking about the Asus N10 netbook the other day? And also a few days before that? It’s amazing how much coverage this thing is getting, but when you roll in the Mercedes or BMW or what have you of the netbook world you can expect to get a little more coverage on the blogs than when some no-name company you’ve never heard of announces a netbook tablet. Regardless, it would appear that at least one merchant has the Asus N10 netbook available for pre-order, so who? (more…)
More details have emerged about the somewhat elusive not-an-Eee machine. Last time we spoke about the Asus N10 netbook there were pictures and things from the device as seen in the wild. This time, there’s slides and (somewhat) technical specs that go into even more details about what we expect from Asus when this is ready to hit the market. (more…)
So this netbook is all of the rage these days with everyone falling over themselves to do a review and to talk about the upcoming 3G model and so on and so forth. I’ve been pretty forward about my overwhelming ambivalence where this is concerned, but I have to give Dell a little credit when it comes to the insides of the machine. Even though the rest of the design is somewhat underwhelming (though I still like how they’ve handled the bezel), it seems that they’ve included all sorts of opportunities for hacking their machine into something infinitely more cool. Remember a while back when we were last talking about AMD and how they, possibly, might be a wild card in this low power CPU game? The AMD Athlon 64 2000+ stacked up pretty well against the Intel Atom despite being clocked 600 mhz slower, so here comes two new CPUs on the near horizon from AMD: an Athlon running at 1.6ghz and one running at 1.5ghz. Sound interesting? (more…)
