Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook

In a surprise to absolutely no one (except for the name), the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook is official. You can’t help but stumble over the information about it if you go to any computer/tech based website, but what the hell? Everyone else is doing it so why don’t we? (Thank you, Cranberries.) (more…)

Asus N10 netbook: pictures and some specs

Its been a little while since we spoke about the Asus N10 netbook (not to be confused with the many Eee PCs out there) and something I wasn’t expecting has come out of the recent information. The N10 still looks good in the new pictures and really enforces the idea that Asus is trying to provide a netbook that’s a little more upscale than the existing Eee line. I’m not sure I’m liking it as much as the pseudo-retro Comodore netbook (I admit there’s some nostalgia that makes the Commodore so appealing), but if the look isn’t swaying me, its hardware may. Microsoft raises netbook hard drive cap

One of the limitations I’ve heard many, many times with netbooks is that Microsoft has restricted what they allow in low power computing devices (netbooks, for instance) in terms of hardware. Because they’re trying really hard to get rid of XP and get the public to buy into Vista, they’ve tried to limit the hardware for these devices and make the more fully featured Vista products more attractive. Whether they would take such a negative view is likely a different story, but it appears they’ve raised the limit. (more…)

Commodore netbook and more, part 2

Hot on the heels of the news of the Commodore netbook announcement comes more information, sort of, and a boatload of pictures of that and some other projects Commodore has been working on. Maybe it’s the old school geek in me, but I look at these things and I want one. In fact, I’d go so far as to say I’m almost willing to spend the money on one just so I can carry a Commodore around and see who the other hardcore geeks are who recognize and remember the brand. Apple announcement next week: no Apple tablet computer

I first saw the announcement on MacRumors, but by now it’s hit just about every other site that covers any sort of tech news. Normally I wouldn’t bother mentioning this (even though I am something of an Apple fanboy), but I figured this would be a good chance to go out on a limb and make me look like I have my finger on Apple’s pulse by making a few predictions. Or one, at least. (more…)

MiTAC MiSTATION netbook: with GPS

Following the announcement of LG’s super cool netbook, Mio (GPS folks) have announced they’re throwing their hat into the proverbial ring with the MiTAC MiSTATION. Stupid lowercase i usage aside, what sets this apart from the rest of the netbooks out there (aside from the LG X110 netbook) is that it includes a GPS. Well, it only makes sense since they’re a navigation company. (more…)

Commodore UMMD 8010/F netbook

Now this is the sort of thing I live for: Commodore is joining the netbook game. Yeah, apparently Commodore, as in the old school Commodore 64 and 128D and all of those awesome, old machines. The hours I spent on a 128D playing Seven Cities of Gold and Gateway to Apshai and Defender of the Crown couldn’t possibly be counted on all of the fingers and toes of a major league baseball team, and here they are joining the netbook game.
