I was poking around doing a little follow-up on some of the more active stories we’ve had in the past and found that out one of the first machines to be sporting the AMD Athlon 2650e is actually out in the wild, and man what a price!
If you’re in the general vicinity of Best Buy, take a look at their computer section. I’d give a product name and model number, but Best Buy lists it as an eMachines Laptop with AMD Athlon 2650e. Yeah, that’s how it’s listed. How bizarre is that?
Anyhow, you may remember from the last post about the AMD Athlon 2650e that it’s a pretty damn tidy little CPU, and while not an exact power competitor to the Atom (that’d really be the AMD Athlon 64 2000+, I think), it’s still a very interesting alternative that I hope people look into.
It’s a pretty trim notebook on the whole, a 14.1″ LCD and otherwise pretty standard size as notebooks, not netbooks, go. It’s hard to say right now if this CPU will find its way into a netbook (or if this should be considered one), but the initial reviews are positive. No word on performance numbers or battery life, but users say it’s cool and pretty powerful, all things considered.
While I admit that every computer I have, aside from my ULV computer, is powered by an Intel chip, it does us, as consumers, good to have competition in the marketplace. So, with that in mind, if you wanted to pick up the cleverly labeled eMachines Laptop with AMD Athlon 2650e processor, it’s going to set you back a whopping $299. Of course, this price will likely go up next week, so for those of you reading this past, let’s say November 15, sorry you missed out.
Visit Best Buy and look for the eMachines Laptop with AMD Athlon 2650e processor.
Thats really strange.. Ive not experienced anything like that.
