Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 and More

Intel this week has released five new processors that you should be seeing on the market soon, and even be seeing them in some upcoming products. While the slew of dual core CPUs is moderately interesting, the curious one is the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000, a low-price, low-power quad core CPU that you’ll be seeing a lot of soon.In fact, word is that Acer has already announced they’ll be throwing one of these into a new notebook that’s so big it can hardly be considered a notebook. Sporting an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000, the Acer Aspire 8930G-7665 will feature an 18.4 inch LCD (18.4!), 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB of storage, and an nVidia GeForce 9700M GT graphics card. Holy cow that’s a powerhouse, except for maybe the GPU.

Back to the CPU, it’s a 1066 FSB chip that sports 6MB of L2 cache and has a TDP of 45w. Yeah, 45w for a quad core. While I’d love to see a Core i7 with those sorts of stats, I won’t sneeze at the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 and would in fact love to see it in one of my own machines.

Some rumors even suggest you’ll be seeing them in upcoming Macs, and I wouldn’t discount the possibility. With MacWorld just around the corner, there’s all sorts of possibilities.

The aforementioned dual core CPUs are a variety of T and P series: 35w TPD and 25w TPD, respectively. These are also no slouches, but really, does anyone care when quad core is now easily possible in a notebook? (Yes, I know, quad core has already been available…) I’ll take an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 please.

TechSpot has more on the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000.
