Issues with iDeneb 1.5.1 after install "completes"
« on: August 19, 2009, 12:50:41 PM »
Hey there,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. It may be a simple/common problem but I am relatively new to OSX86 installs so I'm sorry if it's been covered before.

I have a 1000HE with a 2GB ram upgrade, I did have the stock Windows XP install along with Windows 7 RC dual booting. Edit: Bios is 0802 stock

Here are the steps I took:
1) Uninstalled Windows 7 from the boot record using bootsect.exe (IIRC). After this step the laptop booted normally into windows XP as it usually did

2) In XP, I deleted the partition with windows 7, then created a new partition that as unformatted and primary.

3) Applied the 1.5.1 PPF patch to the iDeneb 1.5 iso, all seemed to go smoothly.

4) Using my external DVD drive, booted off the burnt iDeneb disc

5) Using disc utilities, created a Mac OSX Journaled partition from the empty 60GB unformatted partition, named "OSX"

6) Customized the install to include the following fixed:
ICHx, PS2Fix, Intel GMA950, Firewire remove

7) Started the install process. It seemed to complete perfectly fine (did the disc check at the beginning with no errors, then took about 30min to install

Now is where the problems began. After the install completes it wants to restart. If I have it boot to the HD after this step, it shows a blinking cursors for a few seconds, then the blinking cursor moves down one level, and stays there seemingly forever

If I have it boot to the DVD drive at this step and leave it, it shows an apple screen with no loading circle thing on the bottom and stays there seemingly forever (I left it for about 15 min and it did nothing)

If I have it boot the the DVD drive and hit a button to boot from the disc when prompted, it goes back to the installation of iDeneb.

I also can't get back to XP of course either...

At this point I'm out of ideas after trying installing again. I'm downloading iDeneb 1.6 in hopes of curing it somehow. Am I missing something like a boot loader etc (on my second install I believe I checked it to install Chameleon v2 just in case, that didn't seem to change anything...)

Thanks in advance for the help!

Versions of iDeneb post 1.3 can have problems during installation. I've not personally tried 1.5.1, but I'd refer to you to "regular" guide on the site or the vanilla guide instead.
