I need help...

I installed Snow Leopard and it ran fine. Then I installed Netbookinstaller on my HD, and now I lost the wireless and cannot access the bios. Everytime I start the computer I get the following error:
"Ebios Read Error - Error 0xff" Then it states "Block 0x0 Sectors 0"

After it takes me to the charmelon bootloader, I can only find the OSx partition and my Windows 7 partition. If  I choose windows 7 it gives me an hardware error. It will load onto OSX but like I said I lost my wifi.  I cannot get onto the bios either. I tried to boot off the flash drive and the flash drive doesn't turn on until it is loading OSX. Can someone please help. Thanks.

Edit: I removed the harddrive, and tried to boot just from a USB flash drive. After removing the HD I had my bios working again and it would work to boot from the flash drive. Is there any way I can fix what is wrong without erasing the harddisk and starting all over from scratch?

Go into the bios and turn your wifi card off and then back on then press f10 and save your changes, that should fix wifi.

Like I said before I cannot get on the BIOS with my harddrive connected to the computer. Only when I removed the HD can I actually get to the bios... ???

I reformatted the HD, then installed Windows 7, then installed OSx. It worked, then I did a reboot and lost access to the bios once again... however this  time I am getting no error. When I try to choose Windows 7, it will error out. Once again the wireless has stopped working... uggh need some help please.

After so many different formats, finally got the 1000HE dual booting both Windows 7 and OS X with both working beautifully. I followed a guide I found on mydellmini.com ( http://mydellmini.com/forum/dual-booting-guides/12656-how-dual-booting-snow-leopard-windows-7-a.html )which helped very much.

HOW TO PROCEED:

- boot off the Win7 USB/SB media
- click through the first two windows that appear (you will see a message "Setup is starting.."
- enter CMD by hitting SHIFT-F10
- type in:

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk (your hard drive, should be 0)
    clean
    convert GPT
    create partition EFI size=200
create partition primary size=(size in mb for OSX> (mine was 95000 MB, of a 95 GB HD)
create partition primary size=(size in mb for Win7> (mine was 55000 MB, of a 55 GB HD)
list partition (a * should appear on the third partition, that's where you will install Win7 later)
(at this point you can type "extend" to fill the rest of the drive with any space left over from building the partitions
    format fs=ntfs quick
    exit
    exit

- shutdown your mini by pressing the power button

- install OSX using the method shown on PAGE 1 of this THREAD!
- during the install, you will see the NTFS disk, which you won't be able to use
- enter the DISK UTILITY and select the hidden "disk0s2" and erase is using Mac OS Journaled File System, name it OSX
- continue your installation as you were onto the newly created OSX partition
- when done, SHUTDOWN (don't reboot)- I did not let it boot into OSX and inserted the USB/SD Win7 boot media again
- follow standard procedures for installing Win7 (onto partition 3)
- (if at this point it complains that Win7 cannot be installed onto this drive because of BIOS issues, reboot and do it again)
- when completed, download and install EasyBCD (Google is your friend)
- run EasyBCD and add your OSX Snow Leopard as an optional OS (generic x86), save the MBR with the two choices
- (you may want to decrease the countdown from 30 seconds to 10 or 5, as I did)
- reboot Win7
- see the TWO choices during startup

Finally a working dual boot OSx and Windows 7 on my EEE! :-)

Hopefully no one else will have to go through the same troubles I went through!  :-X

The Idiot's guide to installing Snow Leopard

The goods:
  • EEEPC 1000HE (I replaced my WiFi card but you might not need to do this)
  • A working Mac with SnowLeopard installed
  • An external harddrive
  • A Snow Leopard install DVD

Downloads:

Simple steps:
  • Format the USB drive with GUID format (e.g. with DiskUtility)
  • Install SnowLeopard on external USB drive using the working laptop
  • Boot from external USB drive, perform all upgrades, e.g. to 10.6.1, software installs (XCode etc). You could do this on the EEEPC, too, but most likely it's much faster on your SnowLeopard machine.
  • Download and install SuperDuper.app on the external disk
  • Boot from external USB drive, start NetbookInstaller and set up basic extensions and Bluetooth with the target volume being the EXTERNAL disk (if you pick the wrong disk you regular mac will stop working)
  • Install kexts: Install these with kext Helper (to /System/Library/Extensions, not /Extra) and copy dsdt.aml, dsdt.dsl, smbios.plist, com.apple.Boot.plist to /Extra.
  • Now, plug the USB drive into your EEEPC and boot from the external drive. You should have a working Hackintosh (albeit a bit slow).
  • Format the internal disk in GUID format
  • Clone the external disk to the internal one using SuperDuper.app. This will take a loooong time.
  • Start NetbookInstaller.app again and perform the same installs as above but now on the INTERNAL disk of your EEEPC.
  • Reboot ...

Trying to get SL 10.6 retail installed on my Eee 1000HE. Stock 160GB drive, 1GB ram.

So far, I've created a boot USB drive by restoring my SL DVD to it and running NetbookMaker. The USB drive boots my Eee and I partitioned the disk for GUID, one partition. Then I began installation, unselecting all but the base system and Rosetta. The installer is running on proper 1024x600.

The install seems to be proceeding, but for the past 2 hours it has been stuck at "About 7 minutes remaining" with the progress bar very near the end. In my installer log, the last operations visible look like this:

./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: cp: /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl: No such file or directory
./postinstall: Notify (\_PR.P002,0x80)
./postinstall: Found Notify (\_PR.CPU1,0x81)
./postinstall: Replaced Notify (\_PR.P002,0x81)
./postinstall: Found an issue
INSTALLER LOG SHARED BUFFER IS FUL

There has been no disk activity on the HD or the USB device that I can see.

I booted with -cpus=1 -f -v as the options. I have the Ethernet, camera and Bluetooth all disabled in the BIOS. (I planned to re-enable those after successful install and loading the kexts)

Any ideas?

I had the same.
Don't pay attantion on that, it's OK, installation is completed, just reboot your system.

Just popped in to say that the microphone is working after adjusting its volume (Microphone #2) in the system preferences. I still cannot get the system to remember my volume settings after sleep/restart though. Lovin' SL.

I haven't tried this, but in the package of VoodooHDA 64bit (I got it from insanelymac) There is an item you put in  your startup items to restore your preferences.

I had that problem on 10.5. If I recall properly,  it had to do with the hyperthreading and/or the HPET. It might be resolved with an updated bios or DSDT.

Try disabling hyperthreading with cpus=1 in Chameleon and see if it makes a difference.

^^^^Thx that stopped the choppy sound. How can I make that SL boot always with the cpus=1 flag? also what are the advantages of hyperthreading? and why do you guys think that its having problems on my system and on yours not?

I have rcfa´s dsdt file and my bios is 0802

It could have to do with many things.  I never did figure out why exactly I was getting that issue. I am using a different bios (1002 maybe?), and also the mix of kexts could cause a problem.  Such as, are you disabling AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement? This could also interfere.

Hey guys, I used mastermind278's method to install and its working pretty good.  I had a few lil issues here and there (due to the install stalling at 8 minutes like other people), but its working none the less.

The only thing that's annoying is that I don't have any hard drive volumes showing up on my Desktop (Internal nor External).  It's not a big deal, but its just something I'm used to when I want to open a finder window.

 I tried doing:
Code: [Select]
sudo /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a v /as per this link, but without luck.

Any ideas?

Mmm will try to update my bios today.
By disabling do you mean erase AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement from my S/L/Extensions folder?

Go into Finder, open preferences and click the checkbox for "Hard disks" under what to show on the desktop.

Wow.. thats ALL it was?!  How could Google fail me so hard!  I searched for so many things on why the hard drives were missing on my desktop.  Nothing told me an easy solution like that.  I wasted hours on this last night.

.. Freaking ridiculous.  Thanks alot though!

Webcam Problems
« Reply #70 on: October 21, 2009, 02:11:06 PM »
Does anyone else have a problem with their webcam? Mine just shows a black screen sometimes, and when it does this I quit out of the application using the webcam (photobooth or ichat) and have to restart the app a few times in order for the picture to show correctly. This happens about two to three times a week. Does anyone have a clue as to what's wrong?

Using the info in this post, I've got a NEARLY properly working 1000he on 10.6.1 Thanks to everybody who has helped put this together.

Still have 2 issues that I haven't got a fix for. Anybody know how to get the touchpad to disable tap to click. Touchpad preference pane is there, but not affecting output.

Also, wireless fails to wake from sleep without turning airport off and back on again. Not a big deal, but could use a wake from sleep script for this, or knowing how to get this working without one.

Would someone kindly rehost the kexts? That hosting site is an endless loop every time I try to download and it's rather frustrating. Mediafire, rapidshare, attach here, anything. Would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks, shoota. Appreciate it.

I got around to installing SL on an external hard drive last night, but when I try to boot that drive on the 1000HE I get the lovely kernel panic grey screen of death (boots fine on my MBP, though). Will have to play with it some more later, but I'm sure the kexts will come in handy.

Will try and get a nice, comprehensive guide written (again) once I get it all working.
