iPad Pre-order March 12, Launch April 3

iPad iBooksSo the original word from Apple was that the iPad, their long-rumored and finally revealed tablet (sort of), was going to be available in larch March. Announced in January, Steve Jobs said it’d be available in about 60 days. Well, they may have missed that mark by a couple of days, and certainly there’ll be a few people who jump all over that, but really, does anyone care? At this point, I can’t be the only one who wants to get his hands on one of these to see what they can really do. And now it looks like they’ll be available for pre-order in a week.

Penguin Reinventing Books Via iPad

This is something that, as a writer, has been on my mind for quite some time now. While Amazon’s Kindle is definitely a quality device, and as a book reader, very good, it does little more than actually present the equivalent of the print copy of a book. Yes, I’m well aware that you can buy books/magazines/blog content on the device, and I’m also well aware that it has a web browser on it, but let’s be honest: as cool as the Kindle is, it doesn’t have the horsepower or the display to do real multimedia content. The iPad, however, does. And Penguin, one of the big publishers, is looking to take advantage of that.

Apple Tablet Rumor Round-up

This post alone could take up the entirety of the front of any major news site if one wanted to go into even half of the details of the variety of rumors out there, but we’re not going to do that. Instead, consider this a rapid-fire presentation of recent rumors in light of tomorrow’s big event (anyone else going to be watching Leo and co. as they cover it?). So, without further ado, let the rounding-up begin. Oh, and we’re not bothering with the little crap like playing the name guessing game.

Apple MacBook Pro 13″ Review

As you well know by now, I’m a fan of a variety of things: netbooks, SFF, iPhone, generally anything small and cool that’s a computer. However, being a site dedicated to all things small computing (see?), I sometimes find myself asking where the line is. To be more precise, at what size is a device no longer “small” and more “normal” in size? Is the 13″ MacBook Pro “normal” because it’s out of the typical netbook size? I don’t know and I don’t care, so here’s my review.

Microsoft Courier Tablet PC – Courier vs. Apple Tablet?

If you haven’t seen Microsoft’s Courier, the “secret” tablet they’ve been working on, then let’s start this by showing the video that’s been going around that has a mock-up of what it may look like to use the device:

Is the iPod Touch/iPhone the New Netbook?

If you caught the Apple “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event this week then you may have seen the following picture.

If you paid attention to what Phil Schiller was saying while he was on the stage, he was basically implying that the iPod Touch (and I think more so, the iPhone) is Apple’s answer to the netbook market. Sure, he didn’t come right out and say just that, but if you remember that Apple has said in the past that they have no interest in getting into the “nascent” netbook market, then this kind of makes sense as being their answer to it. The funny thing is that the answer has been there in front of us for over two years now.

So, this brings us to the question: is the iPod Touch/iPhone the new netbook?

Apple Tablet Computer – Too Late?

Ok, so this isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned an Apple tablet computer around here and, likely, won’t be the last. I’ve been keeping kind of low lately, just watching and silently remarking to myself about what has come out and what is on the horizon and just generally taking a “wait and see” approach because I’ve been working on other things. However, this is getting to be ridiculous now with a new article coming every day, so let’s just talk about it and then either a) puff out our chests when the Apple tablet computer shows up in a few months or; b) say we never really thought it was going to happen but it’s a fun exercise to make a dream machine. Which is it going to be?
