If you haven’t seen Microsoft’s Courier, the “secret” tablet they’ve been working on, then let’s start this by showing the video that’s been going around that has a mock-up of what it may look like to use the device:
If you caught the Apple “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event this week then you may have seen the following picture.

If you paid attention to what Phil Schiller was saying while he was on the stage, he was basically implying that the iPod Touch (and I think more so, the iPhone) is Apple’s answer to the netbook market. Sure, he didn’t come right out and say just that, but if you remember that Apple has said in the past that they have no interest in getting into the “nascent” netbook market, then this kind of makes sense as being their answer to it. The funny thing is that the answer has been there in front of us for over two years now.
So, this brings us to the question: is the iPod Touch/iPhone the new netbook?
Ok, so this isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned an Apple tablet computer around here and, likely, won’t be the last. I’ve been keeping kind of low lately, just watching and silently remarking to myself about what has come out and what is on the horizon and just generally taking a “wait and see” approach because I’ve been working on other things. However, this is getting to be ridiculous now with a new article coming every day, so let’s just talk about it and then either a) puff out our chests when the Apple tablet computer shows up in a few months or; b) say we never really thought it was going to happen but it’s a fun exercise to make a dream machine. Which is it going to be?
This is one of those situations where this has already been done to death, so I may not take it much past this article. However, I figured I’d throw out a few quick impressions of what you could expect if you were looking at a Mac Mini as a possible solution for an every day computer or for the heart of your home theater system (at least as far as HTPC (HTMac?) is concerned).
I’m not made of money though it would be convenient. However, I did order a Mac Mini for a variety of reasons, and while I won’t be the first, or last, to write about it, it is imminent, complete with some HTPC (or would that be HTM?) impressions.
I can hardly wait to see what it’s like, especially after it gets a new hard drive and more RAM.
Oh, and this is an experiment in posting from my iPhone. I’m curious what it’ll look like.
The speculation continues, and this time another site I don’t generally go to for my Apple rumors has suggested we may see an Apple tablet computer (sort of an Apple netbook, too, given the size) next month. Shockingly, it’s a damn good idea and possibility, and it somewhat goes along with what I’ve been hoping for. (more…)
It must be the middle of December because the Apple rumor mill is up and running. While there’s certainly no shortage of Apple rumors to be found, this one is a pretty well thought out one that I thought others might be interested in. Talk of an Apple netbook or an Apple tablet computer isn’t new, but Ezra Gottheil has put his brain to use and come up with a pretty compelling rumor. (more…)
