Linux + Netbook = Where’s Windows?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m a Vista defender. Having said that, I don’t actually use it on any of my computers (so that’s not really worth a whole lot, is it?), but I have a point here: just because it’s Windows doesn’t mean it’s bad. But, that’s not necessarily the point of this. With the plethora of netbooks on the market, the options are pretty varied where operating systems are involved. At least, they are now. (more…)

Apple netbook coming soon?

Ok, I’m still trying to get back into a normal posting rhythm here following being on my deathbed, and even though I’ve already posted something today, I thought I’d make a couple of comments about recent speculation of an Apple netbook (ironically, not an Apple tablet computer). It’s widely suspected that Apple will be announcing product refreshes on the 14th, and possibly, some new products. (more…)

Netbook — portable of the future?

If one looks at the notebook market in the last year, it’s been considerably different from two years ago. Those who are following the SFF market and are involved in it know that netbooks have exploded in popularity and that almost every manufacturer is tripping over their own feet to get one out. So the question is, what does the future hold for the market? Are netbooks the future, or are we going to see this “fad” die and go back to traditional portables? (more…)

LG X110 netbook — the new MSI Wind?

Ok, let’s be honest here: I’ve been sick, and given that the majority of SFF news that’s come out lately has been little more than the standard fair, I’ve not had much reason to dig up the effort required to read and put some thought into whipping up a new post. In fairness, I’m still struggling as I try to beat whatever the hell this virus is, but you didn’t come here for me to bitch, so instead, let’s talk about the LG X110 netbook, and if there’s time left, I might make fun of Packard Bell. That’s a tease, right? (more…)

Kohjinsha SX3 Netbook Tablet Reviewed

I hope your French is better than mine, because all I can say is “I don’t speak French.” Anyhow, a review of the Kohjinsha SX3 netbook tablet that left me scratching my head has surfaced. Again, because my French is rather woeful, it’s hard to say for certain, but it’d appear that the initial response (it’s apparently not an exhaustive review) is positive. (more…)

iPhone 2.1 Firmware; Toshiba Netbook; BenQ Netbook

So today’s the big day when iPhone 2.1 firmware is released and a little scanning of forums sounds like it’s mostly positive. There’s some speculation that Apple changed the algorithm to display “more bars” even when the signal is weak, but this is rampant speculation and rumor for now. So while there’s no solid data on reception and call quality, the rest of the update seems to have been good. Me? I’m waiting another few days before I update mine. (Oh yeah, got a 3G last week.) (more…)

Samsung Netbook — Specs, Sort Of

This isn’t the first time news of the Samsung netbook has come out, but it’s slightly more information than was originally revealed, so what the hell? Let’s take a closer look at what they’re offering as they jump wholeheartedly into the market that has already been dominated by the likes of Asus, Acer, and HP, but never mind that. Welcome to the party, Samsung, so nice of you to show up…late. (more…)
